The cagou as New Caledonia's emblem

The most famous calédonien bird is the cagou.

The cagou as New Caledonia's emblem
It's the sole representative of the Rhynochetidae family. The cagou is only living in the Caledonian rainforests and in some shrublands areas. We often hear , its cry in the "Parc de la Rivière Bleue" ("Blue River Park"), similar like a barking dog.

The cagou, the bird who does not fly is the emblem of New Caledonia. He is a threatened specie and therefore permanently protected.
