The Osprey (Pandion haliaetus Cristatus) : an exceptional fisherman!

Among the birds commonly observed, the Osprey takes a special place. Its large size nest is easily identifiable in the tree tip on the lagoon's islands.

The Osprey (Pandion haliaetus Cristatus) : an exceptional fisherman!
The osprey is a bird of prey, frequently observed in the Caledonian sky along the coast line. It's flight is 20 to 30 metres above the surface water to spot its prey. Due to its white ventral plumage, the osprey is not perceived by its prey.

This bird is 54 to 58cm length and weight between 1.2 and 1.9 kg. Its envergure varies from 127 to 174 cm. Its long and narrow wings are digitate tip, giving it a characteristic appearance. Osprey feed quite exclusively with fish caught on the water surface.
